Emperor Zhongzong of Tang

Emperor Zhongzong was the son of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu. He ruled briefly in 683-684 before being forced to abdicate in favor of his brother Emperor Ruizong. Zhongzong then regained the throne after overthrowing Empress Wu in a coup in 705. Her supporters arranged his assassination in 710, and after the very brief intervening reign of Emperor Shang of Tang, Ruizong took the throne once more.
